| First Convocation Ceremony of GIFT University Gujranwala |

| Governor Punjab, Lieutenant General
Retd. Khalid Maqbool has said that public sector
has contributed a lot in promoting innovative education
and it has to do more to fulfill the requirements
of our emerging economy and to cope with the challenges
of global marketing. GIFT University had improved
its ranking in this era of competition and interaction
with its graduates revealed that they are being
chosen by multinationals, banking and telecom sector
on priority basis. He stated this while addressing
the first ever convocation of GIFT University in
which he awarded gold and silver medals to 23 position
holders and degrees to 204 graduates and masters.
A large number of prominent citizens, City District
Nazim, DCO, AIG Police, President GCCI, Members
of BOT and parents of the students participated
in the convocation. |

| Governor Punjab added that Govt.
of Punjab has not increased a single penny in fee
in any school or university for last six years just
to improve purposeful education in the province.
Government has been encouraging Ph. D. Programmes
and establishing new engineering universities and
colleges throughout the province. He urged beside
measures adopted by the government, private sector
could play its role in a much better way so philanthropists
should come forward to further improve the university
education. Universities could lead the country towards
innovative and progressive society hence Punjab
government had enhanced number of universities in
the province to fifteen during last seven years
and this number would grow further in coming years,
he said. |

| Governor urged that graduates
of public sector universities should be able to
start or promote their business and be capable of
becoming business executives instead of rushing
after jobs of grade 17 or 18. They should be capable
of facing pressures of the modern society and competition
at global level. |

| Chairman Mohammad Anwar Dar and
Rector Professor Kh. Zahid Perwaiz, earlier, welcomed
the chief guest and briefed him about the brief
history and future destinations of the varsity.
Faculties of Computer Science, Business & Commerce,
Management Sciences, Arts & Social Sciences,
Accounting and Finances and Art, Design and Architecture
had already been established at GIFT University
and more faculties will be added in coming years
for which feasibilities are in progress, the Rector
told. He added that 49% students of the varsity
are enjoying scholarships, financial assistance
and interest free loans for carrying out their education
and scholarship ratio at GIFT is far above than
guidelines of Higher Education Commission. |
